How do I get rid of spam?

Try mailwasher. It's free. There is also a premium version called mailwasherpro which costs US$37. It's peanuts if you're having to deal with lots of spam.


Something else you can do is remove any email addresses you have on the web. These are harvested by software programs called spiders and sold to spammers. If you don't want to remove them, replace the "@" sybmol with the word "at". This will stop the automated search engines finding your address.

How do I make sure nothing goes wrong?

Well you can never be 100% sure but here is some free advice:

Don't expect something for nothing.

Many emails promise benefits that seem too good to be true. They usually are. Don't be gullible. Often the so-called free product has an alterior motive.

Don't visit suspicious sites.

Don't let programs download stuff onto your computer. They often contain programs that run in the background (invisibly) on your computer and do things you won't be happy with.

Be well informed.

An American security guy has demonstrated how he can intercept mobile calls on the GSM mobile phone network using relatively cheap hardware. Scary stuff since that network is the world's most popular and is predominant in Australia. Newer network technologies (3G) are not vulnerable. *Going back to pen and ink*.

Searching in Outlook
